A Dog-Friendly List of San Antonio Condos for Sale
Check out my new San Antonio dog-friendly Condo list.
by Randy Watson
Hi, my name is Randy Watson and I am a self-confessed dog lover. I am also a real estate agent with Mission Realty, in San Antonio.
Texans love their dogs and cats... and here in San Antonio we are no exception. Dogs and cats are loved everywhere, except it gets a little tricky when it comes to buying real estate that accepts your pets. Especially when looking to buy: condominiums, townhomes and villas; since each may have its own rules and regulations regarding pets. Single family homes have fewer, if no restrictions regarding pets. (A word of caution, some HOA's, even towns/cities may have dog restrictions.)

The Fabled White Elephant Mansion of Karnes City
Written By Randy Watson
The famous, fabulous, and fantastic Veladi mansion sits on a hill, among acres of mown green pasture, along Route 181, as it passes by Karnes City. This classical southern-style mansion – for which the word ‘palatial’ is perhaps a bit of an understatement – was built in 1994, reportedly at a cost of 8 million dollars. It was modeled after an even larger historic – and now long-gone Southern mansion, Windsor Castle, in Port Gibson, Mississippi. The original model for the Veladi mansion served as a Union hospital during the Civil War, and burned to the ground at the end of the 19th century, leaving only the trademark ground-to-roofline columns remain.

I never quite understood the appeal of the cowboy, when it came to the whole western-frontier-nostalgia-gestalt, even after coming to live in Texas and write whole books about the frontier, and Texas. How did that frontier archetype manage to sweep all others before it, in dime novels, movies and television shows... given that the classic "cowboy" functioned only in a very specific time period - for about twenty-five years after the Civil War. Even though the Western cattle industry seemed to be co-located with spectacular scenery, and the frontier as it was offered all kinds of…

The Chisholm Trail and Other Texas Legends
The classical free-range cattle-ranching and long-trail-drive west that we know - or think we know from pulp fiction, B-movies and television shows actually only lasted for about twenty years, from the end of the Civil War to the mid-1880s when bad weather and a glutted market spelled the end of those ways. The cattle-towns usually shown in movies and television actually were limited to a very small time and space: Kansas, the terminus for those long drives from Texas, as the railroads crawled west. Abilene was the first of them, and Dodge City the last; in between there were others like Hayes, Ellsworth, Newton and Caldwell - some of whom only thrived for a single…

Cowboy Breakfast Kicks off Rodeo Season in San AntonioAs January winds down, San Antonio is gearing up for its annual Stock Show and Rodeo, the city’s signature event. As always, the event gets underway with the annual Cowboy Breakfast, which will be held at The Rim for the second straight year. Organizers are hoping this year’s event will be a record-setting one, quite literally. The hopes are to set the world’s record for most coffee served ever at an event, and are expecting 40,000 people to attend the breakfast. Breakfast and coffee is free, and the fare includes such Texas staples as breakfast tacos, biscuits and gravy, menudo, sausage links, tamales, barbacoa, and much more. The Cowboy…
2008 San Antonio Rodeo

San Antonio is many things: a vibrant cultural city; a growing technological center, and a sporting capital. It’s also home to a wide variety of shows and contests that are based in the city’s Wild West roots. The annual San Antonio Rodeo, started in 1950, has long been a favorite of residents of South Texas, and has grown in popularity such, that today over 1 million people attend each year. In the 40s, the Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum was built to house the rodeo and show, and served this capacity well until the AT&T Center (formerly known as the SBC Center) was opened in 2003. Since then, the rodeo has been located in San Antonio’s most modern and comfortable sporting arena.
This year’s…
